● Dispels phlegm
● Relieves cough, bronchitis, and asthma
● Alleviates shortness of breath
● Calms wheezing
Contraindications:
As běi xìng is slightly toxic due to the presence of amygdalin, please follow the dosage guideline and avoid overeating. The toxin can be hydrolysed in cooking, rendering it non-toxic. This herb should be used with caution in infants.

How to soothe a wind-cold cough:
Add 4-5 slices of ginger, 3 stalks of spring onions (white bulb and spring onion roots), 5g of Bei Xing, and 2 bowls of water into a pot. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Add a pinch of cinnamon powder in the last 5 minutes. Add brown or rock sugar to taste. Serve it warm. This soup helps to dispel cold wind and warm the body.
Note:
A wind-cold cough commonly manifests physically as a runny nose with clear or white nasal discharge; small amounts of transparent or white phlegm that is easy to spit out; body aches; absence of perspiration, etc. You may also experience an aversion to cold and have a fever. The information above serves as a general guide only. Please consult a licensed TCM practitioner for a more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
