In Chinese medicine, it is believed that our lifestyle and eating habits can affect how we experience and adapt to seasonal changes. When our body's natural defenses (guarded by the Wei Qi 卫气) are unable to combat external pathogens such as wind, heat, and cold, it can lead to the common cold. TCM classifies cold based on two types: wind-cold flu and wind-heat flu. The former occurs more commonly during cold weather or due to cold environments, while the latter occurs more often during the hot and dry seasons.
Symptoms:
● Wind-cold flu: Aversion to cold, runny nose with clear mucus, body chills, fever, little or no sweating, cough with clear phlegm, etc.
● Wind-heat flu: Runny nose with yellow nasal discharge, cough with sticky yellow phlegm, sore throat, sweating, dry and hard stools, feeling of thirst, yellow urine, etc.
Our Five Flower Tea makes a great cooling drink to alleviate wind-heat flu symptoms.
