Q: What is Korean red ginseng?

Korean red ginseng is produced through a steaming and drying process from raw Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) to enhance safety, preservation and efficacy. [1] In the course of the steaming process, ginseng starch is gelatinised, resulting in an increase in ginseng saponin ('ginsenosides') content. [2] Ginsenosides are the major active ingredients found in ginseng which are responsible for its biological and pharmacological activities. [3] Other than ginsenosides, non-saponin active ingredients such as acidic polysaccharide, polyacetylene, phenolic compound, minerals and AFG amino sugar also contribute to the rich benefits of Korean red ginseng.

Q: Who can consume Korean red ginseng? Is Korean red ginseng more beneficial to a certain age group?

Korean red ginseng is generally good for everyone, young and old, regardless of their body constitution. It is suitable for children aged 3 and above to consume and has also been approved by the US FDA to be safe for children's consumption.

The efficacies of Korean red ginseng is dependent on each individual’s physical body condition instead of their age. Its efficacies may be experienced relatively more in weak subjects or elderly with reduced physical function, as compared to healthy, young adults. However, healthy individuals are still encouraged to consume Korean red ginseng regularly as a daily supplement to boost the immune system, improve overall vitality and slow down the effects of aging.

Note: If you are currently pregnant, nursing or on medication, please consult a doctor first before taking Korean red ginseng. As Korean red ginseng has an inhibitory effect on platelet aggregation, caution should be taken for individuals who are on anti-platelet medication or warfarin.

Q: I am new to Korean red ginseng. What should I take note of as a new user?

The recommended dosage on Jung Kwan Jang's packaging is intended for Korean consumers who have been long-term users of Korean red ginseng since young. As our climate and dietary habits of those living in Singapore differ from Koreans, new users of Korean red ginseng are recommended to start off with a reduced dosage (e.g. half or one-third of the regular dosage) and extend the intervals between each dose (e.g. once every 2-3 days) during the first month. Do monitor your body's response before slowly increasing to the recommended daily dosage. It is also advisable to take at least 8 glasses of water daily and aim for a well-balanced diet.

Although side-effects are rare and uncommon, reduce dosage or stop usage if you are unsure.

Q: How long does it take to experience the effects of Korean red ginseng?

The recommended course for Jung Kwan Jang's Korean red ginseng products is a minimum of 30 days of continuous usage. However, please note that effects may vary from person to person, depending on each individual’s body constitution. It may also be experienced relatively more in weak subjects or elderly with reduced physical function, as compared to healthy, young adults.
