Dang Gui 当归

Dāng guī (Chinese Angelica; 当归) is widely used to tonify the liver blood, promote blood circulation and treat blood deficiency. It has been supporting generations of women in treating menstrual disorders as well as promoting postpartum recovery.

Benefits:
● Alleviates irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea (period pain), uterine fibroids, and endometriosis caused by blood deficiency and blood stasis
● Relieves heartburn, abdominal pain, carbuncles, boils, and joint pain due to wind-dampness
● Stimulates wound healing
● Alleviates constipation due to lack of fluids (Yin deficiency) and blood deficiency, especially in elderly patients and during postpartum

Contraindications:
Please use with caution for individuals with diarrhea or abdominal fullness due to dampness in the body. Individuals who are on blood-thinning medications should also consult a doctor before consuming.

How to make Sì wù tāng (四物汤):
Sì wù tāng is a classic well-being remedy for women. It replenishes blood, aids in harmonising menstrual periods, and relieves pre-menstrual pain. Simply add 300g meat, 10g shú dì huáng (熟地黄), 6g bái sháo (白芍), 5g dāng guī (当归,) and 3g chuān xiōng (川芎) into a pot. Add sufficient water to cover all the ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer at medium to low heat for 1 hour. Serve it warm. (Serving size: 1 to 2)
